Prophet Al-Yasa (AS) is a prophet and messenger of Allah who was sent to guide the children of Israel. In the Quran, Al-Yasa (AS) is mentioned twice as a prophet and is mentioned both times alongside fellow prophets. He is honored by Muslims as the prophetic successor to Prophet Ilyas (AS). Al-Yasa (AS) was one of the children of Israel descendent of Yusuf ibn Ya’qoob ibn Ishaaq ibn Ibraheem Al-Khaleel.

LIFE

It is said that Prophet Ilyas (AS), when finished his task of Prophethood, gave his leadership to Prophet Al-Yasa (AS) and ALLAH (SWT) gave Prophethood to Al-Yasa (AS).

Al-Yasa (AS) lived among his people and called upon them to obey the laws and commands of Allah.

Not much is known about his life, but the Quran speaks highly of him in the two ayahs he is mentioned.

It is said by Ibn Kathir that after Ilyas’s (AS) passing, dissension rose, events took momentum and sins increased everywhere. Eventually, the number of tyrants increased in size and sought to kill the Prophets.

There are sources that claim that Al-Yasa (AS) had been hiding with Ilyas (AS) in a cave in Mount Qasium to escape from the king of Ba’alabak. When Ilyas (AS) passed, he then succeeded him as Prophet.

The story of Al-Yasa (AS) is told in more detail in the Hebrew Scriptures and the Bible, but across all texts, one thing remains consistent which we can learn from is Al-Yasa’s (AS) character.

He really loved and was committed to guiding his people on the right path. He was righteous and consistently showed humility, and passion, and did the right thing. This is something we can all strive for and practice.

Prophet Al-Yasa (AS) continued his Prophethood until 840 years before Prophet Isa (AS).

MIRACLES

In a hadith from Imam Al-Rida (AS), it is mentioned that Al-Yasa (AS) had some miracles including the revival of the dead, curing the ill, and walking on water.

LEGACY

You can learn good deeds from others. Al-Yasa (AS) was a student of Ilyas (AS) for about 10-12 years.
