LINEAGE

Ishaq (AS) is recognized as a prophet and messenger of Allah. Prophet Ishaq (AS) was the second son of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), a miraculous gift from Allah. Prophet Ishaq (AS) is considered an important prophet in Islam, who continued to spread the message of Allah after the death of his father, Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Prophet Ishaq (AS) is mentioned in fifteen passages of the Quran.

 

LIFE

When Ishaq (AS) grew older, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) told Ishaq (AS) to marry someone from his relatives, so Ishaq (AS) married his cousin. The cousin he married was Rafqah, and she was the daughter of Batwil. From Rafqah, Ishaq (AS) had twin sons Esau (AS) and Yaqub (AS).

Son of Ishaq (AS) married the Ismail (AS) daughter who had a son named Ar-Rum together with the daughter of Ismail (AS). In the holy Quran, in Surah Sad (45 – 7) Allah declared the Prophethood of Ishaq (AS).

Prophet Ishaq (AS) asked his people to follow the path of Allah at Kannan. As he grew old, he became blind and settled his son Jacob in Hebron, Palestine. At the age of 180 years, Prophet Ishaq (AS) died.

His tomb and that of his wife Rafqah are considered to be in the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, West Bank, known in Islam as the Ibrahim-i-Mosque (“Mosque of Abraham”).

 

MIRACLES

1. Prophet Ishaq (AS)’s birth was a miracle.

2. When Ishaq (AS) was forty years old, he married Rafqah, Bint Bethuel, during his father’s life. They said she was sterile, so Isaac prayed to Allah and then she became pregnant. She gave birth to twin boys.

 

LEGACY

Ishaq (AS) reminded the people of the purpose of this life. He taught them the rules of the great, true religion of Islam. He told the people of Paradise for some and Hellfire for others, just as the other Prophets did. A significant lesson from his life is that we should follow in our parents’ good footsteps.
