LINEAGE
Ismail (AS) is regarded as a prophet and messenger, and the ancestor of the Ishmaelites in Islam. He is the son of prophet Ibrahim (AS), born to Hajra. Prophet Ismail (AS) is also associated with Mecca and the construction of the holy Kaaba. Prophet Ismail (AS) is considered the ancestor of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
LIFE
Prophet Ismail (AS)’s mission is to make aware the world that Allah is one and Islam is the right religion. Allah has mentioned Prophet Ismail (AS) ten times in the Holy Quran.
In a dream, the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was instructed to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) to Allah. Ibrahim (AS) told Ismail (AS) about the dream, and both agreed to submit to the will of God. Ismail (AS) lay prostrate with his forehead touching the ground, while his father laid a sharp knife upon his neck.
At this moment, Allah called down: “O Ibrahim! You have done my bidding and now you will be rewarded!” A large ram appeared as an alternative sacrifice, and instead of killing his son, Ibrahim (AS) slaughtered the sheep to the glory of Allah.
Ismail (AS) married a woman from the Jurhum. Ismail (AS) took part in the construction along with his father of the Kaaba.
Afterward, Allah gave Ismail (AS) the duty of Prophethood. First, he himself practiced the religion; then, he made his relatives practice them; after that, he conveyed the message of the religion to his nation. He gave him the duty of guiding the people of Amalika in Yemen. According to some sources, Ismail (AS) lived with this nation for fifty years and conveyed to them the divine message and orders. Some of them believed in him but others insisted on unbelief and polytheism.
Prophet Ismail (AS) had many sons and daughters who migrated to several parts of the Arabian peninsula and spread the message of their grandfather Ibrahim (AS) wherever they were.
Prophet Ismail (AS) lived in Makkah throughout his lifetime, passed away at the age of 136, and was buried next to his mother Hajra.
MIRACLES
The place where they were ordered to be left at was the place of the foundation of the first holy house to be established on Earth made by angels, The Kabah. Also, it was in the middle of the desert and just pure foundations nothing more.
Time passed and as Hajra was searching everywhere for anything to drink and feed her son, a miracle happened. She saw an angel descending from the sky to the place where she left her son and striking the ground with his wings, and just afterward a big fountain of water sprung between the feet of the infant Ismail (AS).
That water saved Hajra and Ismail (AS), and also gathered birds to that area making an ancient Arabian tribe come to them and ask them to settle in there with them and use their water. And so, the city of Makah was founded with the water from the well of Zamzam near the foundation of the first house of worship to be placed on Earth for Allah.
