Hazrat Syed Peer Jamal Shah (R.A) came to Mauritius from India in 1848. We believe that maybe some dealers have brought Peer Saheb (R.A) here as that was the custom at that time. Hazrat Peer Jamal Shah (R.A) is the uncle of Peer Syed Jahangeer Shah (R.A) whose dargah is situated at the cemetery of Bois Marchand, Terre Rouge, Mauritius.
LIFE
We comprehend that Peer Saheb (R.A) was continually in Zikru’Allah. One day, he said before his demise that he wished to be covered in the compound of the Jummah Masjid. At the point when Hazrat Peer Jamal Shah (R.A) veiled himself from this world, the board members of the Jummah Masjid approached the British Governor to have his consent to cover the Saint in the mosque compound. As important measures were being taken and it was very late, the burial was delayed for the following day. The next morning, at daybreak, a messenger of the governor showed up from Réduit and told that the governor, who previously had not agreed to the request of the board members, had concurred for the burial to occur at the ideal spot. Furthermore, he mentioned being made aware concerning the hour of the burial to empower him to actually be present at that time.
MIRACLES
This abrupt shift in perspective was subsequently found from the Governor’s own words that he saw Peer Saheb (R.A) in his dream and consented to his solicitation directly.
A fire broke out at Royal Road, Port Louis. The buildings adjacent to the dargah were completely burnt. However, the roof of the dargah although made of wood shingle was not touched by the fire. Even the flag was intact.
LEGACY
Hazrat Peer Jamal Shah (R.A) veiled himself from this world on the twelfth of August 1858, that is, the second Muharram 1275 Hijri, at 45 years. The Mazar (sanctuary) of Hazrat Peer Jamal Shah (R.A) is found at the Jummah Masjid, Royal Road, Port Louis. The dargah is opened from Monday to Friday at 6:45 am (Fajr Namaz), from noon to 13:45 pm (Except on Thursday when ladies attend the dargah during the day), and from 30 mins before Assar Namaz until 30 mins after Esha Namaz.
During weekends and public holidays, it is open at 6:45 am (Fajr Namaz) and from 30 mins before Assar Namaz until 30 mins after Esha Namaz.
