LINEAGE

Dadi Hawan (R.A) was born on 15 February 1922 in Mauritius, in a village called St-Pierre, in the district of Moka. Her father, Sayed Meersaheb Ameer Meea (1876-1942) worked as Imam in the mosque.

Dadi Hawan (R.A) spent much time with her father, a Sufi who followed the Qadiri School of Thought and learned the esoteric path. With the blessings of Allah, she developed a profound love for Ibaadat and spent much time in Tilawat, Nafil, and Zikr.

LIFE

She married Bhai Cassam Goolam Mamode and from this union, three daughters were born, namely Bibi Farida, Bibi Abida known as Fazila, and Bibi Nally. Even after marriage, she neither neglected her conjugal duties nor her Ibaadat.

After marriage, she stayed with her husband in a village called Triolet, and there she adopted an eight-year-old girl named Bibi Meena. After the wedding of her 3 daughters, she left Mauritius in the early 1970s (probably 1972) for Rodrigues with her adopted child. She was residing at Port-Mathurin, adjacent to the Masjid of Port-Mathurin.

Dadi Hawan (R.A) was a pious and down-to-earth woman who preached Deen and Islamic Culture. It was narrated by her daughter Bibi Abida that her mother, Dadi Hawan (R.A) regularly woke up at 1:00 am to perform Salaat and to make Zikr up to 8:00 am. It was also reported that she was absorbed in her prayers and that she always saw angels around her. Her strong devotion to Islam pushed her to convert part of her residence into a Madrassa.

MIRACLES

It was reported that once when Dadi Hawan (R.A) fell seriously ill, she was transferred from Rodrigues to Victoria Hospital in Mauritius, and even in hospital she never neglected her prayer and Wazifa. She confided to one of her nephews that she could see angels all around her in the hospital. This no doubt confirms and indicates her strong attachment and devotion to Allah.

It was narrated that a Christian wedding was held in Rodrigues and during the dancing ceremony, the bride fell unconscious and was hospitalized. Many treatments were carried out and many priests visited her and performed several prayers but in vain. Doctors also were unable to diagnose her disease. It happened that Dadi Hawan was also hospitalized at the next bedside of the bride and witnessed all efforts made by people who visited her for her recovery. It was reported by the adopted child that on the third day of the bride’s hospitalization, Dadi Hawan made a special duah and blow in a glass of water which she sprinkled on the bride’s face. Immediately, to everyone’s surprise, the bride gained consciousness and was fully recovered.
