Hazrat Uthman ibn Ali (R.A)

Hazrat Uthman ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A) was born in 659 CE. His father was Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A), who was the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). His mother was Fatima (R.A), the daughter of Hizam ibn Khalid ibn Rabi’a.

LINEAGE

Hazrat Uthman ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A) was born in 659 CE. His father was Hazrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A), who was the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). His mother was Fatima (R.A), the daughter of Hizam ibn Khalid ibn Rabi’a from the Arab tribe of Banu Kilab. Uthman had three full brothers, named Hazrat Abd Allah (R.A), Hazrat Ja’far (R.A), and Hazrat Abbas (R.A). Their mother Fatima (R.A) thus became known as Umm al-Banin (mother of the sons).

 

LIFE

Apparently, Hazrat Uthman (R.A) did not get married and had no children. Hazrat Uthman (R.A) and his brothers Hazrat Abbas (R.A), Hazrat Abdullah (R.A), and Hazrat Ja’far (R.A) accompanied Imam Hussain ibn Ali (R.A) in his journey from Mecca to Kufa. He took part in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

Hazrat Uthman (R.A) went to the battlefield saying: “I am Uthman the possessor of glory, my master is Ali the executor of virtuous deeds, and this is Hussain the master of fairness, the master of the young and old”. Khawli ibn Yazid al-Asbahi shot an arrow at Hazrat Uthman’s (R.A) forehead resulting in him falling off his horse. Then a man from the Banu Darim tribe beheaded him.

Hazrat Uthman ibn Ali (R.A) was 21 years old when he was killed. His grave is in the shrine of Imam Hussain (R.A).
