Hazrat Nasiruddin Chiragh Dehlavi (R.A)

Nasiruddin Mahmud Chirag-e-Delhi (R.A) was a prominent saint of the Chishti Order. He was a mureed (disciple) of the great saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (R.A), and later his khalifa (successor).

“Khazinat-ul-Aulia” states that he is a relative of the famous Hazrat Imam Husain (R.A) while others express that he is a relative of Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab (R.A) the second Caliph of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W).

LINEAGE

LIFE

Nasiruddin Mahmud Chirag-e-Delhi (R.A) was a prominent saint of the Chishti Order. He was a mureed (disciple) of the great saint, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (R.A), and later his khalifa (successor). He was the last recognized khalifa of the Chishti Order from Delhi and was given the title, “Roshan Chirag-e-Delhi”, which in Urdu means “Illuminated Lamp of Delhi”. Hazrat Nasiruddin (R.A) lost his father at the age of nine years old and the duty of his schooling regressed upon his mother. From an extremely youthful age, he was terminated with strict commitment and was exceptionally specific about promptness in congregational salaat.

He did not however pass any specific judgment against it. This is the reason why even today, qawwali is not performed near his shrine in Delhi. Nasiruddin’s (R.A) descendants are to be found far and wide as a lot of them moved down South to Hyderabad. The dargah of Badi Bua or Badi Bibi, who is said to be the elder sister of Nasiruddin Mahmud Chiragh Dehlavi, still exists in the city of Ayodhya. His urs is held on the 17th of Ramadan.
